Babak Amini
Babak Amini was born in 1978, in Iranian Kurdistan, graduated with a major in philosophy from Tehran University. Babak has worked for several years as an assistant director to Bahman Ghobadi: A Time For Drunken Horses (2000) Turtles Can Fly (2004) Half Moon (2006). Babak directed 3 short films: Girls without Glasses (2002) Angels die in the Soil (2008) and On That Day (2008). He is currently developing his first feature film Oil the story of a soldier in charge of keeping watch of an oil well in a Kurdistan village near the Iranian border. -
Anna Faur
Anna Faur was born in 1978 in Budapest, Hungary. At the age of 14 she spent a year in a youth correction institution in Hungary. She studied Sociology and Mathematics at ELTE University in Budapest. In 2000 she was accepted into the Hungarian Academy of Drama and Film as a director. She also had an interest in cinematography so in addition to directing she took cinematography courses. During film school she made several short films and documentaries. She has participated in numerous feature films in Hungary as an assistant director or assistant camera. She had the chance to work, with among others, Miklos Jancso, Peter Greenaway, Kornel Mundruczo, etc. She also worked as second unit camera operator beside various Hungarian cinematographers. Right after completing her studies Anna made her first feature film .GIRLS.. The film is based on a true story that took place in 1997 in Budapest in which two 14-year old girls killed a taxi driver. .Girls. opened in Hungarian cinemas at the end of 2007. Since then Anna has been working on her second feature film project Transit of Venus: the story of four women from various generation and social origins. -
Aaron Fernandez
Aaron Fernandez was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, in 1972. He earned a Masters degree in cinematographic and audiovisual studies, in Paris, France, specializing in directing and screenwriting. Back in Mexico he founded, along with partners, Cinta Negra, an independent production company, thus participating in art house film and television projects. As a director, Aaron has worked in several projects, including documentaries, four short films and his first feature film . Partes usadas. The film took part in more than 30 festivals worldwide, winning various awards. Aaron Fernandez current project is Las horas muertas, the story of Sebastián, a 22 year-old boy, who starts working during the late hours in a decaying motel on the desolated coast of Veracruz, where he meets odd characters and with whom he shares his solitude. Las horas muertas is about the passing of time and how solitude can be set aside for an impossible love story. -
Alejandro Landes
Alejandro Landes was born in 1980 in Sao Paulo, Brazil to an Ecuadorean father and Colombian mother. Alejandro studied economics and political science at Brown University, and later went on to work for a US newspaper and television show. In 2005, he worked as a writer for a Los Angeles production company before heading out on his own to direct the feature documentary film COCALERO - premiering at Sundance in 2007 and later screening in competition at more than 40 international festivals. Alejandro is currently working on a narrative project about a Colombian man in a wheelchair who tires of waiting, and takes his teenage son along to make a rather explosive complaint. -
Liew Seng Tat
Liew Seng Tat was born in 1979. He hardly said a word before the age of one. His mother, half suspecting that he was mute and mentally-retarded, was very relieved when he finally spoke at length on his first birthday. Liew Seng Tat has been actively involved in the Malaysian independent film scene since 2003. He is one of the new- generation filmmakers spearheading the Malaysian New Wave. His first live action film, Bread Skin with Strawberry Jam, garnered much attention and took first place at the 8th Malaysian Video Awards. In 2004, he set up Da Huang Pictures with Amir Muhammad, James Lee, and Tan Chui Mui. In 2007, his first feature film Flower In The Pocket made its world premiere at the 12th Pusan International Film Festival and won several international awards. His new project In What City does It live? The film will observe the reactions of village residents helping Pak Awang to move an abandoned house in the village and offer it to his daughter as a wedding gift. -
Robin Weng
Robin Weng was born in China.s Fujian Province in 1982. He started making short films and documentaries in 2002, while he was still a student at the Beijing Film Academy. Those films include award-winners like the DV short Jasmine Bay (2003),. His first feature film, Fujian Blue (2007), won the Dragons and Tigers Award at the 26th Vancouver International Film Festival and was an official selection of the 2008 International Film Festival Rotterdam Tiger Awards Competition. The film was the recipient of post-production support from the Pusan International Film Festival.s Asian Cinema Fund and the Rotterdam festival.s Hubert Bals Fund. In 2008, Weng served as editor on a new film by Lou Ye, one of China.s .sixth-generation. directors, and co-produced the film Take Me to Vietnam. Lou is executive producer of Weng.s new project, Red Spider Lily, which was selected for the 2008 Hong Kong . Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), the story of soldier Nanyangzai demobilized from specials forces recruited for a gang leader.
