After graduating from the École Louis-Lumière (Paris) in 1997, Franck Tomps, born in 1973, continued his studies at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences. His work has been noticed on several occasions: he won the Polaroid competition (1997), was awarded special honours for the Attention Talent Photo FNAC (2002) in Paris, then was award holder in the Photographie.com competition (2003). His unique photographic world is a reflection of an unfazed and challenging point of view. Franck Tomps has been published in the French daily press and magazines (Libération, Le Monde, L’Express, Télérama, L’Obs…) and completes corporate projects alongside personal ones.
On his work… "I like photographing places as much as the people who live there. I don't seek to document. Photography should be surprising; it surprises me. In that sense, my practice is open and receptive to surprises. I encourage encounters. Context is also very important." This philosophy also applies to his portraits, in which the context often comes into the frame. Franck Tomps is currently seeking a French agent as well as a foreign agent to represent him during assignments on French soil.
