A passionate telling of the story of Sada Abe, a woman whose affair with her master led to a sexual obsession which then came to a violent end.

ALL THAT JAZZ Bob FOSSE 1979 - 02:03

The preternaturally gifted director and choreographer Bob Fosse turned the camera on his own life for this madly imaginative, self-excoriating musical masterpiece. Roy Scheider gives the performance of his career as Joe Gideon, whose exhausting work schedule—mounting a Broadway production by day and editing his latest movie by night—and routine of amphetamines, booze, and sex are putting his health at serious risk. Fosse burrows into Gideon’s (and his own) mind, rendering his interior world as phantasmagoric spectacle. Assembled with visionary editing that makes dance come alive on-screen as never before, All That Jazz pushes the musical genre to personal depths and virtuosic aesthetic heights.

The only historical film of Jean Rouch & Co., Babatu. The 3 advices traces the warrior epic of the Zarma chief Babatu who conquered Gurunsi country, prospering as a result of the slave trade.

In between unbridled improvisation and reenactment – benefiting from the screenplay of the historian, writer and politician Boubou Hama from Niger – a movie still relevant today...

BLOW-UP Michelangelo ANTONIONI 1966 - 01:51

Blow-Up is the story of a day in the life of a photographer and what he experiences during that day. At the park, he takes pictures of two people and later on, through the photographs, he discovers something he had failed to see. An element of reality that appears real and, as a matter of fact, it is.
However reality has a quality of freedom about it that is hard to explain. By the end of the day the photographer has learnt a few things, like playing with an imaginary ball, which is not too bad of a result, after all. Blow-Up is, perhaps, like Zen: the moment you explain it, you betray it.

Synopsis by Michelangelo Antonioni

During WWII, railway workers were active in the shadow to fight the Nazi Occupation at the risk of their lives: intelligence, clandestine transport, sabotage. In June 1944, after the D Day, the struggle carried out by the Résistance-Fer network is intensifying. Athos, the head of a marshalling yard, and his deputy Camargue, are going to do all they can with the help of numerous railwaymen to slow down the advance of German reinforcements towards Normandy. A great classic of post-war cinema that recalls authentic scenes from the Résistance, the Battle of the Rail is a tribute to all the anonymous who took part in the liberation of the country.

However, her late husband's friends and family expect that she remains in mourning for the rest of her life in order to keep his memory alive. Unlike most films made in Israel shortly after the 1967 war, Siege did not reflect the euphoria of victory, but succeeded in capturing feelings of fear and mourning. The film had its world premiere in Competition at the 22nd Cannes Film Festival in 1969, and was later selected as the Israeli entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 42nd Academy Awards.

Director Shohei Imamura has produced a number of well-known and newsworthy films with a vitality-filled touch that pierces the humanity lurking deep within the Japanese heart. This film, a joint production by Toei and his own Imamura Productions, is a drama of the soul that seeks the essence of universal human themes: life and death, parent and children relationships.
Based on a masterpiece by Shichiro Fukazawa, and set in a poor village deep in the Shinshu mountain range, the film tells the story of a son who must carry his mother on his back after she turns 70 and abandon her near the summit of Mount Narayama on a snowy day in accordance with the local laws -- a bloodcurdling tale of how people face their death as they live with such gruesome local customs.

SOLEIL Ô Med HONDO 1969 - 01:38

In an unnamed French colony in West Africa, black men line up before a white priest for baptism and renaming—the first step in a process that simultaneously deracinates and subjugates them. In France, colonial blacks, encouraged by propaganda, arrive to seek a better life. What they find is unemployment or a handful of ‘dirty’ jobs, unacceptable living conditions, naked racism, and bureaucratic indifference. Searching for a new form, Med Hondo has eschewed all conventional narrative. From the stylized and surreal opening sequences to the episodic adventures of a particular man, the director presents a series of imaginative set pieces, linked by voice-over narrative, that investigate and dramatize a complex of interrelated themes. A scathing attack on colonialism, the film is also a shocking exposé of racism and a brutal and ironic indictment of Western capitalist values.

YOL - THE FULL VERSION Serif GÖREN - Yilmaz GÜNEY 2017 - 01:53

In the period following the military fascist coup of September 12th, 1980 in Turkey, at the time when repressive measures were being brought to bear in all areas of social life, leave permits for those in semi-open prisons are suspended until further notice. In order to qualify for leave, the detainees are required to have served a third of their sentence and have a record of faultless conduct. Insult, physical maltreatment, repression, forced labour and arbitrariness are normal in Turkish prisons. For those detainees who await leave, only one attitude remains: resignation and submission.

The three episodes also present us with "Lucías" of different social classes.
