"To my opinion, every movie has its full share of luck. Actually, my films are made of additions of small parts. I work with segments which I number without anticipating neither the links between them, nor their order in the story. During the editing, I try a good many of combinations. It's like pieces of a puzzle gradually fitting together.
At the end, I discover the entirety. I think it is a very Chinese way of thinking. I believe in chance. I often think of the group we form with my closest collaborators: William Chang, Christopher Doyle, Mark Lee Ping-bing as a Jazz band. When I muster them, I suggest we have jam sessions on a new project."
