Nanni MORETTI
Biography

Director, producer, distributor and actor, Nanni Moretti was born in Brunico, Italy in 1953. He directs a number of shorts before finishing his first feature Io Sono un Autarchico in 1976 and playing in the Taviani brothers' Padre Padrone which was presented at Cannes in 1977. Several of his next films win awards all over the world: Sogni d'Oro (Jury's Special Prize in Venice in 1981), La Messa e' finita (Silver Bear in Berlin in 1986) or selected for the official competition at Cannes: Ecce Bombo in 1978, Aprile in 1998, Caro Diario which won the Director's prize in 1994 and La Stanza del figlio, the Palme d'Or of the Festival in 2001. An actor in the most of his own films, Nanni Moretti founded the production company Sacher film in 1986 with Angelo Barbagallo and produces, besides his own films, Notte Italiana (1987) by Carlo Mazzacurati, Domani Accadra (1988) and Il Portaborse (1991) by Daniele Luchetti then La Seconda Volta (1995) by Mimmo Calopresti in which he also acts. In 1991, he inaugurates the cinema Nuovo Sacher and since 1996 he is director of the Festival Sacher dedicated to short films.
