Biography

Virginie Ledoyen made her debut in cinema at 13 in the lead role of Mima by Philomene Esposito in 1990. A few months later she played opposite Marcello Mastroianni and Michel Piccoli in le Voleur d'enfants by Christian de Chalonge. In 1993, she starred in les Marmottes by Elie Chouraqui (First Cesars nomination 1994), followed by l'Eau froide by Olivier Assayas (second Cesars nomination 1995). She was also in la Ceremonie by Claude Chabrol (1995) and la Fille seule by Benoit Jacquot (1995) which gave her her third nomination for the Cesars 1996. She also played in a musical comedy Jeanne et le Garcon formidable directed by Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau (1997) for which she received the prize for best actress at the Festival de Paris. After A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries by James Ivory (1997), she starred in En plein coeur by Pierre Jolivet (1998) before working with Olivier Assayas again in Fin aout, debut septembre (1998). Virginie Ledoyen has just finished shooting The Beach by Danny Boyle (1999).
