Biography
Born in Polistena, Italy, in 1955, Mimmo Calopresti won the Young Cinema award at the Turin International Festival for his 1985 short film. Between 1987 and 1994, he made a series of documentaries, notably for the Workers Movement¿s audiovisual archives, for which he directed 1943¿The Choice and 43-45¿Peace and Liberty. He worked for the RAI TV network from 1991 to 1992.
His three feature films have all been presented in the Cannes¿ Official Selection: The Second Time (La Seconda Volta), in 1996 was In Competition, and went on to win the award for Best Feature at the Chicago International Film Festival; Notes of Love (La Parola Amore Esiste), in 1998, was chosen for the Directors¿ Fortnight, and was awarded the Nastro d¿Argento Prize for Best Original Screenplay, in Italy; Preferisco il Rumore del Mare (I Prefer the Sound of the Sea), in 2000, was presented in Un Certain Regard.
