Biography
A daughter of actors, born in Paris, Emmanuelle Devos made her debut in On a volé Charlie Spencer (1986) by Francis Huster, her teacher at Cours Florent. She then worked for her friends from La fémis: Noémie Lvovsky (Dis-moi oui, dis-moi non, 1989) and Arnaud Desplechin (La Vie des morts, 1991, My Sex Life...or How I Got into an Argument, 1996). She particularly likes auteur films and becomes known to the wider public with Read My Lips by Jacques Audiard which won her the César for Best Actress in 2001. She played striking characters in Bienvenue en Suisse (2004) by Léa Fazer, Kings and Queen (2004) and A Christmas Tale (2008) by Arnaud Desplechin, The Beat That My Heart Skipped by Jacques Audiard and La Moustache by Emmanuel Carrère (2005), then in Wild Grass by Alain Resnais and In the Beginning by Xavier Giannoli (2009) which won her the César for Best Supporting Actress.
