Biography

After beginning as an essayist and film writer, his first movie was The Spirit of the Beehive, awarded with the First Prize at San Sebastian (1973), achieved a remarkable reception from critics and audiences worldwide. He then directed The South, in Official Selection at the Festival de Cannes 1983. The Quince Tree Sun, his third feature, in collaboration with the artist Antonio Lopez, won the Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes, 1992. Lifeline, filmed in 2002, was part of the collective film Ten Minutes Older: The Trumpet. In 2006 he wrote and directed the medium-length film La Morte Rouge. He is also the author of a video installation conceived for museums, entitled Clamor of the world, silence of the painting, presented in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris and Melbourne. Currently he is working on a documentary series entitled Memory and Dream.
