Synopsis

Dirk Bogarde stars as Stephen, a vain and insecure Oxford don whose life is thrown into turmoil when he falls in love with one of his students, Anna, who has also attracted the attention of William, a wealthy fellow-student, and Charley, a colleague of whose professional success and suave self-confidence Stephen is profoundly envious.
