Synopsis
The Faustiant myth is one of the key myths of our civilisation. In fact, it is analogous to the myth of Adam and Eve. My faust is not Goethe's romantic titan. He is an ordinary man off the streets, just one of many, manipulated into the role of a Faustian rebel. Paradoxically, however, he fails to put up a fight. Is our Age so decadent that all we can manage is a genuflectory protest ? But it is quite possible that you find other interpretations for my film. This film was not created à la thèse, and like any creative oeuvre is open to your mind's eye.Jan Svankmajer
