Gilles JACOB

FRANCE
Duration:
26.00 minutes

Synopsis

Cannes Stories is a twenty-six-minute tribute that will bring the past to life, with the Festival's history, high points and evolutions, from 1946 to 2001. And, let us not forget its moments of glory, its moments of tempest, its rewards, its surprises, at times tragic, at times comical. More than just a mere documentary, this archival piece is studded with the most renown stars in the history of cinema, past and present, for our biggest delight: the biggest celebrities, the legendary filmmakers, the superstars (in all, several hundreds). The public will rediscover the faces and moments that dreams are made of. This hymn to the Golden Age of world cinema, made of admiration, tenderness and mischief, is an exhilarating evocation, a whirlwind of transient images that will go down in cinema history.

Without any commentary, this spectacular film, combining humor and emotion, is a collection of the memories of one man, who perhaps knows the Cannes Film Festival better than anyone else. Gilles Jacob, its director (Le cinéma dans les yeux, Les Préludes), has not missed one Festival since his arrival in 1964, at first as a journalist (L'Express), later on, as General Delegate and ultimately as President, his current status. His short film is a reflection on the passing of time, on the frailty of images, on the legendary heroes dearly departed, on a time full of magic and secrets that he brings back to life with style.
