Synopsis

After a long stay in London, Sujata Rajasuriya returns to Ceylon with her daughter Aruni. Her sister Sita, who sacrificed her life to running the family mansion, is waiting for them. In the taxi which takes them back home, they dream of rediscovering the happiness they once had. But
what once was, is no more.
The mansion, the splendour of a bygone age, is doomed to disappear. And with it, will be shattered the last illusions of a dying caste.
Around a water lily pond - where a child tragically died - the ghosts of the past gather to draw together the cruel threads of their destinies. The family seeks advice from Lucas, the son of its former tenant farmer, now a successful businessman.
By defending the mansion against Lucas who is trying to secure the property for himself, Sujata tries, in a kind of hallucinatory dream, to delay the final act of the tragedy.
