Biography

Eldest daughter of Charlie Chaplin and Oona Neil, Géraldine was born in Santa Monica, California. After finishing studying the classics, she studies dance at the Royal Ballet School in London and makes her dancing debut in Cinderella at the Champs Elysées theatre in Paris.
In 1964, she begins a film career under the aegis of Jacques Deray and playing to Jean-Paul Belmondo in Par un beau matin d'été. In 1965, the role of Tonya she plays David Lean's Docteur Jivago in competition at Cannes promulgates her to international stardom. Since then, Géraldine Chaplin has been in over 80 films and many television productions.
In 1967, with Peppermint Frappe she begins a collaboration with the Spanish director Carlos Saura over eight features (Ana y los Lobos in 1973, Cria Cuervos in 1975, Elisa Vida Mia in 1976, Los Ojos Vendados in 1977), and in 1968 she plays Broadway in The Little Foxes directed by Mike Nichols. Member of the jury at Cannes in 1982, she is president of the Caméra d'Or in 1991.
During her career she has worked with important directors like: Alain Resnais (La Vie est un roman in 1983), Claude Lelouch (Les Uns et les Autres in 1981), Jacques Rivette (L'Amour par terre in 1984), Michel Deville (Le Voyage en douce in 1979), James Ivory (Roseland in 1977), Robert Altman (Nashville in 1974), Alan Rudolph (Remember my Name in 1978), Miguel Littin (La Viuda de Montiel in 1979), Richard Lester (The Four Musketeers in 1973), Martin Scorsese (Age of Innocence in 1992), Jodie Foster (Home for the Holidays in1995), Daniel Schmid (Bérézina in 1998), Pedro Almodovar (Hable con Ella in 2001)...
