Cannes as a Jury member

Mati Diop
This was an enriching experience, an incredible adventure. It's one thing making films, and another thing entirely to discuss them, to stick up for your own point of view while remaining open to others. It's an experience that saw me grow as a person.

Mylène Farmer
It was a whirlwind ride, simply wonderful. I'm particularly thrilled that TITANE won, because genre films tend to be overlooked.

Spike Lee
Straight off the bat, I said there'd be no American imperialism here. I wanted it to be a democratic process, and that's what it was.

Just look at the Jury. Women are well represented. I've seen so many films in my lifetime, but this was the first time I'd seen a Cadillac impregnate a woman. It struck me as extraordinary, ingenious with a flash of madness.

Jessica Hausner
Believe it or not, during the deliberations there was no mention of gender. As it turned out, we chose a woman.

There's a sense of bold risk-taking here. What Nadav Lapid has accomplished is a political statement on the one hand, and a very liberated, personal, and radical form on the other. Having these two aspects meet is deeply important to me. Everything Nadav Lapid does embodies contemporary cinema.
