The Cinéfondation Selection: Programme 3
Sixteen medium-length and short films, chosen from more than 2,400 entries by film school students, are being shown at the 2017 Festival de Cannes Cinéfondation. We asked each filmmaker to give us a good reason to see their film.
The 3rd line-up is made up of the following films, which will form the programme on 25th May at 2:30 PM in the Buñuel Theatre.
Wild Horses by Rory Stewart
United Kingdom – 26 minutes
Joan’s efforts at teenage rebellion are frustrated by her illness and her mother, until her increasingly vivid dreams and an overzealous tutor inspire her to realise her independence.
Pequeño manifiesto en contra del cine solemne (Little Manifesto Against Solemn Cinema) by Roberto Porta
Argentina – 14 minutes
A trivial story about two people that meet at a party and spend the night together, told in the most pretentious, most poetic, but above all, most solemn possible ways.

Émile, a young cellist, is overwhelmed with anguish on the day of a concert…
Tokeru by Aya Igashi
Japan – 45 minutes
An emotionally confused teenage girl has a daily ritual: secretly jumping into the river as a form of emotional release. As chance would have it, one day her ritual is discovered by her male cousin, visiting from Tokyo.
The Cinéfondation prizewinners will be announced by the Jury led by Cristian Mungiu, at a ceremony on Friday 26th May at the Buñuel Theatre, followed by a screening of the award-winning films.
