    Synopsis

    Léo, héritier sans couronne d'un royaume devenu République socialiste, gagne l'Angleterre, pour se soigner. L'ancienne demeure familiale se trouve maintenant au milieu du quartier noir.
    Léo est un rêveur, plutôt timoré. Il a trouvé un refuge à son ennui dans l'ornithologie.
    Dès son arrivée, il est accaparé par ses amis de la haute société, dont sa cousine Margaret, en instance de divorce : Laszlo, avocat de la cause perdue du pays de Léo ; David, médecin mondain.
    Vivre au milieu d'un ghetto noir, c'est pour Léo une fascination quotidienne.
    Mais son existence est double. D'un côté, ses oiseaux, le ghetto et la famille de Salambo à laquelle il s'attache. De l'autre, les soirées mondaines dont l'une, pour fêter le divorce de Margaret, se termine en orgie.
