Marché du Film

In its desire to serve and promote the dual nature of film, as both a cultural and economic enterprise, the Festival de Cannes created the Film Market for the Official Selection in 1959, so as to lend some of its own energy to the international film industry.

In 2009, having become the premier rendezvous for film professionals the world over, the Film Market celebrated its 50th anniversary by welcoming 10,000 participants from 101 countries representing 4,000 companies, with 400 exhibitors. Producers, sellers, distributors and financiers came to build the partnerships that will create the films of tomorrow.

Each year, the Film Market encourages cinematic creation by giving the industry a place to meet, and by providing professionals with precise services and tools to facilitate their meeting, discussions and negotiations. Last year, nigh on 4,000 films and projects were presented; 1,500 screenings took place, 75% of which were premieres.

In 2004, the Film Market set up the Producer’s Network, a programme of unique initiatives for producers based on the singular challenges of their profession. Along with its database, www.cinando.com the Market is able to accompany its participants in their daily business all year long.
