Biografía

French-Portuguese actress and director, Maria de Medeiros makes her debut in the cinema at the age of 15, in Silvestre by João Caesar Monteiro. Moving to Paris to study acting, she soon shoots with Chantal Akerman, Susanne Schiffman, Jean-Charles Tacchella, Philip Kaufman and Istvan Szabo. Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (Palme d'Or, 1994) reveals her to the international public. Working with Bigas Luna, Antonietta de Lillo, Miguel Faria and Guy Maddin, she remains faithful to Portuguese directors - from Manoel de Oliveira to Teresa Villaverde - thanks to whom she wins the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress in Venice for Two Brothers, My Sister. Maria has also directed several films, among which April Captains, on the Portuguese "Carnation Revolution", selected in Un Certain Regard in 2000.
