Suzanne BIER

Susanne Bier graduated from the National Danish Film School in 1987 and her diploma film won an award at the Munich Festival of Film Schools. Her feature film debut, Freud Leaving Home (1990) received a number of international plaudits, as did Family Matters (1993) and Like It Never Was Before (1995). The One and Only (1999) boosted her reputation, with nearly a million admissions in Denmark alone. The Dogma film Open Hearts (2002) was selected for the San Sebastian, Sundance and Toronto Film Festivals, and Brothers (2004) was nominated for 11 European Film Academy Awards and won Best Acting Awards at San Sebastian. In 2006 After the Wedding was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards®. Bier's most recent film Things We Lost in the Fire, starring Halle Berry and Benicio del Toro, is currently premiering across Europe.
