Born in Paris, Sandrine Kiberlain studied acting at the cours Florent from 1987 to 1989 and also worked with Pierre Romans. She then attended the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris from 1989 to 1992. In 1989, she starred in Ivanov at the Amandiers theatre in Nanterre, directed by Pierre Romans and in Le Roman de Lulu, directed by Didier Long, at the Petit Théâtre de Paris, in 1996. In 1993, she starred in Pascale Bailly¿s short feature Comment font les gens and in Eric Rochant¿s Les patriotes (The Patriots), for which she was awarded the Romy Schneider Prize. Her role in Laetitia Masson¿s En avoir (ou pas) (To Have (or Not)) won her the César for Most Promising Young Actress in 1996. Since then Kiberlain has been constantly in demand. In 1996, she starred in Jacques Audiard¿s Un Héros très discret (A Self-Made Hero), and Edouard Molinaro¿s Beaumarchais, l¿insolent (Beaumarchais, the Scoundrel); in 1997, she appeared in Valérie Lemercier¿s Quadrille, Benoît Jacquot¿s Septième ciel (Seventh Heaven), and A vendre (For Sale), directed by Laetitia Masson; in 1998, she worked on Rien sur Robert, directed by Pascal Bonitzer, and was reunited with Benoît Jacquot for La fausse suivante (False Servant); in 1999, she worked again with Laetitia Masson on Love me, and starred in Tout va bien, on s¿en va (Everything¿s Fine, We¿re Leaving), directed by Claude Mourieras; in 2000 she was directed by Claude Miller on Histoire de Betty Fisher.
