OF OUR ECONOMIC SITUATION

Haifa, Friday noon. Two urban characters, a former teacher and one of his former pupils, are coming from opposite directions, cutting through the mountain side, on a collision course. Moshe is climbing the endless stairs which lead from the lower city to the heights of the Carmel Mountain, looking for his wife’s lost earring. Ely is descending the same stairs, on his way to the port to catch a ship. He’s set to sail abroad, with the goal of clearing his overflowing heart. They meet the different people of the city and different elements of society at each topographic level. Inevitably, they meet mid-way, on the stairs. They talk, trying to catch up on the 20 years gone by, before moving on. A sensitive, light-hearted, insightful and naive existentialist quest set in the spiritual, never-before-filmed setting of Haifa’s 1000 steps.
