Nicole Garcia started her career in the theatre in 1967: she appeared in Les caprices de Marianne, Suréna and Oncle Vania, after studying philosophy and then drama at the Centre Dramatique de la rue Blanche and the Conservatoire national d'art dramatique. She has acted in over thirty films since 1976, with directors such as Bertrand Tavernier Que la Fête commence (1974), Henri Verneuil Le Corps de mon ennemi (1976), Laurent Heynemann La Question (1977), Philippe de Broca Le Cavaleur (1978), Alain Resnais Mon Oncle d'Amérique (1979), Claude Lelouch Les Uns et les Autres (1980), Pierre Schoendoerffer L'Honneur d'un capitaine (1982), José Pinheiro Les Mots pour le dire (1983), Claude Sautet Garçon (1983), Michel Deville Péril en la demeure (1984), Brigitte Rouan Outremer (1989), Sam Karmann Kennedy et moi (1999), Philippe Harel Tristan (2002), Claude Miller La Petite Lili (2003). She went back to the theatre with Deux sur la balançoire in 1985, Partage de Midi in 1990, and Scènes de la vie conjugale by Ingmar Bergman in 1995. 1985 was also the year she directed her short film, Quinze août, showing her desire to go behind the camera. Since then she has directed four films: Un Week-end sur Deux (1990), le Fils Préféré (1994), Place Vendôme (1998), L'Adversaire (2002)
