Dedicated to the preservation of masterpiece films of the past, the Cannes Classics program honored Italian horror-movie master Dario Argento tonight. A print of the classic Suspiria restored by Wild Side Films was screened in the Salle Buñuel. Greeted with a standing ovation, the director overcame his emotion long enough to say, "Thirty years ago today, Suspiria was released in France. It's a sign! Just a few words. I am very proud to be here today, at Cannes Classics. Very proud, because France, in addition to being my second home, is the country that discovered me, long before the Americans, the British, and even the Italians. I am thus very proud to present this restored print. It's a great honor for me. I hope to come back next year with a film in competition! Thanks to my brother Claudio, who produced Suspiria. Thanks to my daughter Asia, who is in the audience tonight. Enjoy the film!"

In case you've forgotten, Suspiria is the story of a young American dance student who has come to Europe to study in a famous academy, but she soon finds that the school is a front for an evil organization. A theatre re-release is scheduled for October 17.
