Cannes Classics: Pierre Etaix, Guest of Honor

Every year since 2004, the Cannes Classics program of the Festival has honored monumental films of the past, by screening new or restored prints of them. Today, Festival audiences were given an opportunity to discover or rediscover Yoyo (1965), by Pierre Etaix, in a fully restored version.

For this occasion, the director honored the Festival with his presence. Delighted to see the film again in such ideal conditions, he expressed his gratitude to Gilles David and the Groupama Gan Foundation for Cinema, without whom the restoration project could not have been accomplished.

The Cannes Classics screenings will continue for the entire duration of the Festival, with the John Wayne Centennial, the presentation of adaptations of Shakespeare's plays featuring Sir Laurence Olivier, and the announcement of the official launch of the World Cinema Foundation, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of film masterpieces from around the world, by its founder Martin Scorsese, in person.
