Half a century ago, Brazilian composer and musician Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) introduced bossa nova to a worldwide audience with ''The Girl from Ipanema.'' This musical collage of countless seamlessly edited excerpts of concert footage covers decades of events all over world. And we see a huge of artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall, Henri Salvador, Jean Sablon, Chico Buarque, Lisa Ono, Pierre Barouh , and the maestro himself Jobim. There is no commentary; the music speaks for itself. Picture postcards, private photos, official documents, posters, album covers, and sheet music complement the concert footage.

Documentary about João Pedro Teixeira, a peasant from Paraíba whose murder was ordered by local landowners, in 1962. The shooting was interrupted in 1964 due to the dictatorship, and taken up seventeen years later. The film tells the story of the Peasant Leagues of Galiléia and Sapé and the life of João Pedro from the words of his widow, Elizabeth Teixeira. She talks about her life during those 20 years, as well as about their children, far from her since 1964.

The Portuguese Crown is concerned about the Diamantino District in the second half of the 18th century, not only because it has the country's richest mines and is the center for ideas about rebellion, but also because of Xica da Silva. In the kabuki tradition, the samisen ballad speaks of a kind elderly woman, Orin, who is contemplating her ascent to Mount Narayama. This most stylized work by Kinoshita is also his most dramatically theatrical, replete with meticulously designed soundstages and dramatic lighting. A haunting allegory that shows the conflict between filial duty, tradition and social pressure, the same story was remade by Imamura Shohei decades later, but the original remains a startling, culturally resonant magnum opus.
