Bahman GHOBADI

Bahman Ghobadi was born in 1969 in Bané, Iranian Kurdistan. During his studies, he works in radio before joining in Sanandaj a group of young amateur filmmakers. He then moves to Teheran to begin studying film.
Between 1995 and 1999, he directs a dozen or so short films (Cet homme-là est arrivé and Encore la pluie avec la chanson in 1995, Dang, La Part du cahier, Le Poisson de Dieu, Comme la mère and La Réception in 1996, Les Mélodies de la fille des Steppes in 1998), that win numerous prizes in various international festivals and notably the Prix Spécial du Jury at the Festival de Clermont-Ferrand for Vivre dans le brouillard in 1998.
In 1999, he becomes first assistant to Abbas Kiarostami on the shooting of Le Vent nous portera.
In 2000 his first feature Un temps pour l'ivresse des chevaux is presented at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs and wins both the Caméra d'Or and the Critique Internationale prizes. The same year, he is one of the lead actors in Le Tableau noir by Samira Makhmalbaf, presented at Cannes in 2000.
