Leonor Silveira made her film debut in 1989 playing the lead in Manoel de Oliveira’s The Cannibals. She became his muse and went on to play strong parts in eighteen of his films, most of which were presented at Cannes. The heroine of Abraham Valley in 1993, she then shared the billing with Catherine Deneuve, John Malkovich, Marcello and Chiara Mastroianni, Michel Piccoli and Irene Papas in The Convent, Anxiety, The Letter, I’m Going Home… She has also worked with other Portuguese directors: João Botelho, Joaquim Pinto, Luís Galvão Teles and Vicente Jorge Silva. In 1998, she began working for the Ministry for Culture before joining the Film, Audiovisual and Multimedia Institute, becoming its Vice President in 2005.
