" Birdy " squats in the corner of an army hospital ward. He has returned from Vietnam, a psychiatric cripple from the war. His friend from his schooldays, Al, has been sent for in a last attempt to bring Birdy back to reality. Al is also a casualty of the war; his face badly damaged and covered in bandages. Through Al, we re-live their boyhood friendship in the working class streets of South Philadelphia. Our film is about obsession and friendship, the destruction of young lives by distant wars, and how all of us, surrounded by the walls and predicaments that skirt our lives, yearn to soar above them.
