Cannes Classics, dedicated to cinema heritage, invites festival-goers to the Salle du Soixantième at 7:45pm tonight to discover Lola Montès, a drama loosely based on the life of 19th-century dancer Lola Montez, directed by Max Ophüls in 1955. A fully restored Technicolor copy has been made available, thanks to the Cinémathèque Française and Les Films du Jeudi, and tonight’s screening is its premiere. This is also an opportunity to honor the great filmmaker, who died in 1957, shortly after Lola Montès was completed.
