Grand Prize to “Gomorrah” by Matteo Garrone

The Grand Prize was presented by Roman Polanski to director Matteo Garrone
for Gomorrah.

At the Awards Press Conference, Garrone expressed his thanks: “I’ll take advantage of this opportunity to express my gratitude at greater length. I must thank all the people who enabled me to make this film, especially Saviano, the author of the novel. The atmosphere in his story, his characters, and their stories gave me so much… I’m also very happy to be here alongside Paolo Sorrentino, because he’s someone I have a great deal of respect for, even if our styles differ. Our taste and passion for filmmaking unite us. Lastly, the fact that two Italian films are award-winners is important on an international level. I am proud to be one of those two directors.”
