THE MARCHE DU FILM, THE PRODUCERS NETWORK AND CINANDO.COM

The Marché du Film offers a reverse shot on the creative and financial dynamics of cinema. At the heart of the Festival de Cannes, the Marché welcomes each year all the actors of the worldwide movie industry; producers, international sales agents, distributors and investors meet to make deals for tomorrow’s films.

On April 15, more than 8,000 professionals from 93 countries already confirmed their participation, in other words 8% more than in 2007. Since 2003, the global attendance of the Marché du Film has increased by 40%.

In response to a significant screenings demand, 3 new screening rooms will complete the 30 existing ones, with an overall of 12 digital screening rooms. The Marché du Film will then be ready to host the 1,600 screenings already booked for the 2008 edition. With such a wide offer of movies, the Marché tops international film markets.

This constant planning strategy also lives through the tools and custom-built programs that the Marché has been developing over the years, in order to match the professionals’ expectations as best as possible. Among those initiatives, the Producers Network and cinando.com may be highlighted.

  • The Producers Network is an integral part of today’s film production process: nowadays a project cannot exist without an international base. In 2008, this networking program will accompany 600 producers, selected among the best worldwide.
  • Cinando.com builds a permanent link between the professionals of the cinema industry. It lists more than 8,500 companies with daily profile updates. Cinando.com enables to carry on Cannes all year long.

Another initiative will this year take the opening of the Festival along to a wider diversity of film genres. It is the « Documentary Brunch », created by the Marché in order to gather international directors, producers and distributors from the cinema documentary world.

The Marché du Film also favours a strong emulation between its numerous exhibitors, who make the biggest part of their annual sales here. This year, about 300 companies will showcase their productions on more than 6,000m2 of exhibiting surface. About 120 exhibitors will be present in hotels or flats on the Croisette.

LE PRODUCERS NETWORK

The Producers Network highlights the backstage of filmmaking as it promotes meetings between cinema professionals from all over the world. It is a real matrix for projects in production, and a stepping stone for international co-productions. For its 5th edition, more than 600 selected producers will discuss the stakes proper to their job.

The participants meet up every morning around 16 round-table conferences, animated by experienced moderators. Internationally renowned guests share their view on film production and financing.

And after last year’s huge success, the initiative of the « Producers Network’s speed-datings » is to be seen again in 2008: on May 15, 16 (French-speaking producers) and 17 (Ibero-American producers) the participants will have the opportunity to talk over their projects.

CINANDO.COM

Cinando.com is the most important database of the film industry. It lists companies as well as films, projects and rights. Daily updated, it is an essential tool all year long, and especially during the preparation of the biggest cinematographic meetings (Toronto, AFM, EFM and Cannes). The website also includes all the information on the Marché du Film’s participants, and more widely data for more than 8,500 companies, and more than 10,000 active film titles (in preparation or completed). In 2007, it has had more than 5 million pages seen. This vitality confirms its leading role on the international stage.
