The Un Certain Regard Jury

This year, the Un Certain Regard Jury is chaired by German director Fatih Akin, winner in 2007 of the Best Screenplay award for The Edge of Heaven. In 2005, he served as a juror on the Official Selection panel. To award the Un Certain Regard Prize at the end of this year’s Festival, Akin will be conferring with jurors José Maria Prado, head of the Filmoteca Española, and journalists Anupama Chopra, Catherine Mtsitouridze, and Yasser Moheb. Tonight, they will make their first ceremonial red-carpet entrance, to attend the screening of first-time filmmaker Steve McQueen’s Hunger, the opening film in a selection intended to emphasize one-of-a-kind works, the originality and esthetic of which contribute to a renewal of cinematographic expression.
