1971: Tribute to Charlie Chaplin

On May 12th, 1971, during its 24th Opening Ceremony, the Festival de Cannes paid tribute to Charlie Chaplin in the presence of the Minister of Culture Jacques Duhamel, come to make him “Commander of the national order of the Legion of Honor”.

The emotion of the 82 years old “Kid” in front of the ovation of the public of the “Grand Theatre Lumière” remains one of the greatest moments of the Festival’s history.

Thanks to the archives of the INA (NATIONAL AUDIOVISUAL INSTITUTE), relive the tribute filmed by the ORTF.
