Making Fuck Off by Fred Poulet, latest arrival at the Festival de Cannes

Making Fuck Off by Fred Poulet, a 52-minute documentary on the behind-the-scenes  of the film Mammuth by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern, is being shown today in an exceptional screening at 21:00, Salle Buñuel.

This “making-of” film shot in Super 8 was produced at the request of the directors of Mammuth, who wanted to keep a record of a project they were not sure they would be able to carry out successfully. Written and directed at breakneck speed, Mammuth was the first collaborative project of the two directors, with Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Adjani and Anna Mouglalis. Inspired by the famous documentary Lost in la Mancha, which relates the infernal filming of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Terry Gilliam’s aborted project, they got in touch with musician Fred Poulet, who had made the film Substitute, a chronicle filmed in Super 8 of a player condemned to the bench during the 2006 World Cup.

In the end, the filming of Mammuth went ahead without any hitches, nothing like the ill-starred project the directors expected. Since its release in France in April, the feature film has drawn more than 600,000 spectators. A reception that for Gustave Kervern and Benoit Delépine makes Fred Poulet’s film “even more beautiful than if Mammuth had been the catastrohpe they expected.” This evening’s screening will take place with Gérard Dépardieu and the directors in attendance.
