The opening of the 63rd Festival de Cannes was officially launched this Wednesday by Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, the two lead actors in Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott and presented at the opening screening.
For the first time in the history of the Festival, the ceremony and the opening film were shown in a number of French cinemas. Presented by British actress Kristin Scott Thomas, the opening ceremony enabled the whole world to see cuts from all the films selected in the Competition. “Like the actors’ expressions, the stories are eternal. For twelve days, we will share the eternity of cinema,” she said. Before all the guests of the Grand Théâtre Lumière, film lovers were introduced to the nine people who make up the Jury of this new Festival season and in particular, its President, Tim Burton–a jury that is nevertheless deprived of one of its distinguished members, Iranian director Jafar Panahi, who is imprisoned in his native country.
