Cannes Classics is showing the new print of Facteur (Al Bostagui) by Egyptian filmmaker Hussein Kamal.

As part of the tribute to Egypt (guest country) several events have been held, including the screening of 18 Days yesterday, and Cannes Classics offers Facteur by Egyptian filmmaker Hussein Kamal, 43 years after its original release.

Hussein Kamal made a host of feature films between 1966 and 1985, including Sarsara Ala El Nil (Adrift on the Nile) written by Naguib Mahfouz, in 1971. He passed away in 2003 at the age of 70.

Filmed in black and white, Facteur tells the story of a country postman who, out of boredom, opens people’s mail. Through their letters he learns of a love story that he would very much like to play a role in.
