Cannes Classics dives back into the dangerous waters of Jaws, the second film by the creator of ET (1982). Thrills are guaranteed with this restored version.

Amity is one of those fictitious places that have marked the imagination of movie lovers the world over. It was in the clear waters off this non-existent American island, the setting for Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel Jaws, that a giant shark struck sudden terror as it devoured students and tourists.

A year after the book was published a young 28-year old movie director named Steven Spielberg took on the adaptation of Peter Benchley’s story in order to make his second film, which turned out to be one of the most celebrated pictures in cinema history.

The shoot was long and trying. The problems were such that the project was imperilled. production costs kept rising and the mechanical sharks kept refusing to work properly. On its release, however the movie was an immediate success and it continues to influence the director to this day. In total, Jaws won three Oscars.

Jaws has been restored by Universal Studios Digital Services and the Amblin Entertainement post-production team.
