The Coen brothers love losers. Film after film, their cinema is the embodiment of a colourful anti-heroes gallery, with a special affinity for moronic criminals. The directors enjoy throwing them into absurdity using an unstoppable comic energy which first of all endears them to us.
Mediocre, confused, clumsy, and sometimes terrifying—as Anton Chigurh can be in No Country for Old Men—the Coen brothers’ characters, canonised in various scenes which have now acquired cult status for film lovers, are above all unforgettable.
