Ken Loach, Palme d’or for I, Daniel Blake:

"We try to present the dramatic side of daily life in all its shapes and forms."

Xavier Dolan, Grand Prix for Juste la fin du monde (It's only the End of the World):

"I wanted my film to make people want to talk to their families. The message is that we need to recognise each other through the details."

Cristian Mungiu, Award for Best Director ex aequo for Bacalaureat (Graduation):

"If we don't reverse the trend, auteur films could just disappear. We must support niche cinema."

Olivier Assayas, Award for Best Director ex aequo for Personal Shopper:

"Kristen Stewart learned a lot from working with Juliette Binoche on the filming of Sils Maria. I sensed her potential and I explored it in this film."

Jaclyn Jose, Award for Best Actress for her role in Ma’Rosa:

"Brillante Mendoza shows the whole world how important family is. This is the main message of this film."

Shahab Hosseini, Award for Best Actor for Forushande (The Salesman):

"Two awards out of seven were presented to my country and I find that wonderful."

Asghar Farhadi, Award for Best Screenplay for Forushande (The Salesman):

"I receive this award as a tribute to Iranian film."

Juanjo Gimenez, Palme d’or – Short Films for Timecode:
"You can make a career in film without making feature films. My next project will be another short film because shorts are the present and the future."

João Paulo Miranda Maria, Special Distinction from the Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury for A moça que dançou com o Diabo (The Girl Who Danced with the Devil):

"This is a wonderful year in my life and I am very happy that there are a number of Brazilian films in the Selection like Aquarius."
