Opening ceremony of the 69th Festival de Cannes
“The real star here is cinema.” These words were spoken by Laurent Lafitte, Master of Ceremonies at this 69th Festival de Cannes. The actor, joined by Catherine Deneuve for a long cinematic kiss, welcomed the members of the Jury to the Grand Théâtre Lumière: Kirsten Dunst, Arnaud Desplechin, Katayoon Shahabi, Mads Mikkelsen, Valeria Golino, László Nemes, Vanessa Paradis, and Donald Sutherland as well as President George Miller. A video tribute was paid to the filmography of the Mad Max: Fury Road director, as well as to Paris, which has been the victim of terrorist attacks twice within the past year. In keeping with tradition, the ceremony ended with music, provided by Mathieu Chedid alias M, with a gentle celebration of the late great Prince.
