The Cinéfondation Selection: Programme 1
Seventeen medium-length and short films, chosen from among more than 2,000 entries by film school students, are being shown at the 2019 Festival de Cannes Cinéfondation. Georges Goldenstern (Director of the Cinéfondation) and Dimitra Karya (Director of the Selection) answered four questions about the Cinéfondation, to present the four lines-up of this year as well as the aim of the initiative for young filmmakers.
QUESTION 1: The tree constituents of the Cinéfondation
The first line-up is made up of the following films, which will be part of the programme on May 21 at 2:30pm in the Buñuel Theatre.
AMBIENCE by Wisam AL JAFARI
Palestine – 15'
Two young Palestinians try to record a demo for a Music Competition inside a noisy crowded refugee camp. While they fail to make the recording because of the chaos around them, they discover an authentic way to meet the deadline creatively.
AHOGY EDDIG (AS UP TO NOW) by Katalin CLEMENTE
Hungary – 24'
Hope is what takes us forward. All the characters in the film – including Margit and her daughter – become part of a lie that gives hope, that can change their lives and give their relationship a new beginning as well.
SOLAR PLEXUS by David MCSHANE
United Kingdom – 9'
Noah has not accepted the death of his mother, an astronaut. In order to move on, he must break the umbilical cord that still connects them.
ROSSO: LA VERA STORIA FALSA DEL PESCATORE CLEMENTE (ROSSO: A TRUE LIE ABOUT A FISHERMAN) by Antonio Messana
France – 28'
Clemente is an old Sicilian fisherman who goes on working in spite of his old age. His life is disrupted the day he finds a young refugee’s dead body stuck in the fishing nets.
