The Cinéfondation Selection: Programme 1

For its 24th edition the Cinéfondation Selection of the Festival de Cannes has invited 17 directors: 8 women and 9 men. The 13 live-action and 4 animated shorts have been chosen from among the 1,835 submitted by film schools all over the world. The first line-up is made up of the following films, which will be part of the programme on July 13 at 2:45pm in the Buñuel Theatre.

LA CAÍDA DEL VENCEJO (THE FALL OF THE SWIFT) by Gonzalo QUINCOCES
Spain – 13'

Bilbao, 1984. In a time of industrial reconversion, within a closed society and an oppressive family environment, Kepa, a young working class, decides to fight for his dreams and the flight of his spirit, but the cruel reality will make him fall.

United States of America – 21'

Joe and Bill go hunting for ducks.

BESTIE WOKÓŁ NAS (BEASTS AMONG US) by Natalia DURSZEWICZ
Poland – 6'

Set in a surreal scenery, the film tells about the role reversal of victims and predators. In a world full of inequality, division, brutality and constant struggle for survival, it is difficult to remain innocent.

OYOGERUNEKO (THE CAT FROM THE DEEP SEA) by HUANG Menglu
Japan – 50'

A story about love and reconciliation between Yukari and her mother Shizue. They quarrel because of their huge difference in values and lifestyles. Yukari strives to reconcile, but the hidden rift between the two is yet to be healed…

The jury will hand over the Cinéfondation prizes at a ceremony preceding the screening of the awarded films on Thursday, July 15th, in the Buñuel Theatre.
