The Cinéfondation Selection: Programme 3

For its 24th edition the Cinéfondation Selection of the Festival de Cannes has invited 17 directors: 8 women and 9 men. The 13 live-action and 4 animated shorts have been chosen from among the 1,835 submitted by film schools all over the world. The first line-up is made up of the following films, which will be part of the programme on July 14 at 3pm in the Buñuel Theatre.

KING MAX by Adèle VINCENTI-CRASSON
France – 21'

Maximilienne discovers a new side of herself while playing with her appearance alone in her bedroom. One night, she runs away and finds herself in a nightclub at a drag king show. A new world opens itself before her. She has found a new family.

FONICA M-120 by Olivér RUDOLF
Hungary – 24'

10-year old Aron lives with his mother in a room of a junk motel. Hovering around the adults, he creates his own imaginary world, led by his father, a song, and a jukebox. One day a new guest arrives and Aron’s world is turned upside down. He has to choose where he belongs.

OTHER HALF by Lina KALCHEVA
United-Kingdom – 13'

As an individual being in a world comprised of merged couples, Ren embarks on a quest to find an other half in hopes of becoming complete.

FRIE MÆND (FREE MEN) by Óskar Kristinn VIGNISSON
Denmark – 28'

Two best friends get in trouble with their jobs which forces them to rethink how they want to live their lives. Daniel wants to be independent and Emil wants to feel secure. In the end Daniel has to choose between his best friend and his freedom.

The jury will hand over the Cinéfondation prizes at a ceremony preceding the screening of the awarded films on Thursday, July 15th, in the Buñuel Theatre.
