We celebrate 25 years of the hit movie franchise with 11 installments in style! The Fast and the Furious (Fast and Furious) zooms on screen at full tilt at the Grand Théâtre Lumière in the company of those who contributed to the success of the first installment: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and producer Neal H. Moritz. To mark the occasion, we present some interesting facts about the film.

A Fast and Furious in 1954? Both films have a common lead character who, after getting out of prison, heads straight to the streets, but the 1954 version, directed by John Ireland, takes a different turn. After he escapes from prison, the main character kidnaps a young woman at a diner before taking off on a crazy car race headed to Mexico. For the 2001 film, producer Neal H. Moritz considered different titles, such as “Race Wars” and “Street Wars”. When he watched a Roger Corman documentary, he discovered John Ireland’s 1954 film, and after negotiating the licensing rights, he finally took the title.

A remake of Point Break? That’s the theory of an entire online community when the scenes and narrative plots of the Kathryn Bigelow film are compared to those of Fast and Furious, except that surfboards are replaced with muscle cars. Even if the theory is not confirmed, it is endorsed on screen by Édgar Ramírez in the remake of Point Break by Ericson Core, which was released in 2015.

Over its 20-year long run, each new film has been a worldwide hit. In total, the 11 installments grossed 7.3 billion dollars at the box office worldwide, which makes the franchise the most successful one for Universal Pictures.

2028: Fast Forever! is the next installment announced by Vin Diesel on his Instagram account. Fast Forever will pay tribute to the late Paul Walker, who starred in the first 7 films of the saga before his passing in 2013. It is carded to be released in France on March 17, 2028.

In the meantime, we rediscover a restored version of the film behind the legend in the presence of some members of the cast at Midnight Screenings.
