When the Prince of Aragon, Don Pedro, and his victorious army returns from the wars, there is much rejoicing among the women in the household of the Governor of Messina. Two of Don Pedro’s close companions find themselves drawn into romance. Claudio into romance. Claudio and Hero are in love, but before their romance can reach a happy conclusion, they will experience the despair of betrayal and deception. Benedick, proud bachelor, is engaged in a war of words with Beatrice but their quarelling hides a deeper attraction and they are finally tricked by their friends into discovering their love for one another.
