MURDER IN HARLEM

Directed by : Oscar MICHEAUX

Year of production : 1935 Country : UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Length : 96 minutes

Synopsis

Inspired by a notorious crime that took place in the state of Georgia in 1913, "Murder in Harlem" focuses on the murder of a young white woman by a night watchman at a chemical factory. Or so it seems at the outset of the investigations. It will take an enterprising lawyer to uncover the truth of what happened, which is very different from what was recounted in the hours following the crime. With "Murder in Harlem", a remake of Oscar Micheaux’s own silent film from 1921, "The Gunsaulus Mistery", the director reinterprets a case that inflamed American public opinion for many years, setting it within the African-American community. Micheaux himself appears in a cameo as a detective. It is the first and only time that we have heard his voice.
