Maggie CHEUNG

Maggie Cheung, born in Hong-Kong in 1964, grew up in England. The new darling of Hong Kong directors gained her first recognition as a powerful dramatic actress came when Wong Kar-Wai cast her in the 1988 crime drama, As Tears Go By. She broke through to international audiences in 1996 in Olivier Assayas' Irma Vep. Four years later, Maggie Cheung was once again Wong Kar Wai's muse, earning rapturous worldwide reviews in the international hit, In the Mood for Love. Her next film, Zhang Yimou's Hero, released in 2002, proved another worldwide success. The crowning moment of her career remains, for the time being, her performance in Olivier Assayas' Clean, for which she is honoured with the Best Actress Award at the 2004 Festival de Cannes. The same year, she makes a special guest appearance in Wong Kar Wai's 2046, in Competition at Cannes.
