On Saturday night, Dasatskisi (Beginning) by Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili triumphed at the 68th edition of Spain's San Sebastián International Film Festival, winning the Golden Shell for Best Film, as well as prizes for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay.

The 68th edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival showcased 17 films of Cannes 2020's Official Selection, in an unprecedented and exceptional joint effort. The awards ceremony took place on 26 September, and was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili's first feature film, awarding her four of the festival's most prestigious prizes: for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress, thanks to Ia Sukhitashvili's performance.

The incredibly masterful Dasatskisi (Beginning) is the young filmmaker's vision of her country's stagnant society, told through the story of Yana, the wife of a Jehovah's Witnesses community leader, who is attacked by an extremist group. A heart-rending tale that unfurls like a hunt, with a prey caught in the headlights and stalked by a skilled predator.

"I want to thank the jury for this amazing, incredible day. It means a lot to me, it's a great honour." Dea Kulumbegashvili

Thomas Vinterberg's Danish comedy Druk (Another Round), meanwhile, won the prize for Best Actor, which was awarded to the film's four male leads: Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Bo Larsen, Magnus Millang and Lars Ranthe. The film is distributed by Haut et Court and will be in cinemas across France from 14 October!
