Cannes 2026: Global Visibility in Service of Cinema
Tonight, the first awards of this 79th edition will be unveiled with the announcement of the La Cinef Prizes, dedicated to film school productions. Tomorrow, Un Certain Regard will in turn reveal its winners. Finally, on Saturday, May 23 from 8:15pm, festivalgoers and audiences around the world will follow the Closing Ceremony, during which the prizes for the short and feature films in Competition will be awarded.
On May 12, the Opening Ceremony, broadcast live on France 2, drew a cumulative audience of 4.6 million viewers, with a peak of 2.2 million. An especially strong launch, followed throughout the first week by the Festival’s major presence in online conversations. On Brut.’s side, the live broadcast of the Ceremony, combined with content produced across all its platforms, generated 113.5 million views worldwide.
As of May 20, the hashtag #Cannes2026 had reached 1.4285 trillion views, 50,167 unique posts, and 2.072 million shares across social media worldwide, reflecting the enduring international enthusiasm surrounding the Festival.
This exceptional visibility owes much to the commitment of the Festival de Cannes’ partners, foremost among them Brut. and France Télévisions.
To date, Brut. has posted impressive figures, surpassing one billion video views on its #Cannes2026 content — nearly twice as many as at the same point in 2025.
France TV has also delivered outstanding performances, with 270 million views, a figure four times higher than last year.
On the Festival de Cannes’ official social media platforms, this year’s partnership with Meta has notably helped expand the reach of Festival content to new international audiences, further strengthening a sustained growth dynamic that has continued for several years, with a combined community now exceeding 3.5 million followers. Since the Official Selection announcement on April 10, the Festival’s published content has generated more than 337 million views, representing an increase of over 273% compared with the same period in 2025.
Beyond the figures, this extensive media coverage above all reflects the attention devoted to the films, artists, discoveries, and memorable moments of this 79th edition, with the Competition remaining at the heart of the Festival.
The Festival de Cannes extends its warmest thanks to the media, partners, and audiences around the world who continue to support this celebration of cinema, creativity, and culture, ahead of the Festival’s final three days leading to the unveiling of the 2026 Palme d’Or.
